Happy 9th Birthday, Sean!

Sean is now officially 9 years-old!!  It feels like years go by faster every year and the little baby we brought home clumsily from the hospital is not so little anymore.  The first bath... I remember Mike and I arguing over how to wash you while you were screaming and how we used to put your PJ on together while singing "Let's put PJ on, Sean", a silly song I made up to make dressing fun.  Your sweet little face is longer now with cute pointy chin and we think you are going to be a handsome young man in 10 years.  I cannot believe you are going to be a grown man someday, but I could not imagine you as a 9 year-old when you were a baby.

It is amazing to see you grow taller and smarter every year.  I am trying my best to be the mother I want to be, but I am sorry I fall short all the time.  I yell when I should be the adult, I get impatient when you need a moment to regroup, and I am not there with you to teach many things I pictured myself teaching.  I certainly wasn't prepared to be a mother of four children close in age and I still feel like I am playing a catch up, trying to make up for all the things I planned to do with you.  I don't think I ever will be able to catch up, but I think you are happy with how things are.  You love your brother and sisters even though they annoy you sometimes.  You love your Mommy and Daddy and you won't even trade your Daddy for Russell Wilson, you said.  You are approaching your teen years and I do feel you are changing a bit, but I am going to treat you like my baby as long as I can.  I hope you keep giving me hugs like you rely on me and trust me with all your heart.  I love you so much and I will always be someone you can count on!

Ok, enough with mushy stuff.  We didn't have a party for Sean this year because I was late on planning and we had a plan to take him on a weekend trip to the Great Wolf Lodge instead.  A rental at party place costs about $200 and it is just absurd to me.  Yet, I couldn't imagine having a bunch of 9 year-olds running around at my house.  A party at a park sounds fun, but there is always a risk of bad weather in February.  To add to the list, Sean had a dental procedure done a week after his birthday.  So, too much money, too much trouble, and too much stress.  However, we did manage to have a family birthday dinner with Parker at home.  We also invited Nana and we had a nice mellow dinner together.  Instead of making a cake with complex decorations, I made an ice cream cake with chocolate sponge cake, cookie and cream ice cream, covered with whipped cream and fudge.  It looked great and you just can't go wrong with an ice cream cake.  It's simple and yummy.

He received many gifts from family and Parker.  He was quite satisfied with his birthday this year, too.  I bought him several books plus Seahawks comforter and pillow.  Nana got him a Seahawks towel.  He is steadily collecting the Seahawks gears and I am sure his room is going to be covered with football goods in the future.  That boy loves football!  Grandpa got him a red Ohio State cap and Sean liked it so much, he wanted to sleep with it.  He is a big fan of basketball, too, although he still feels not too confident about playing himself.  I will write about his basketball games in the next post.

So, my son is 9 and all is good!
